  • European winners of Young? Creative? Chevrolet! 2009 Photography discipline zoom in on new Chevrolet Spark

How often does an art student have a chance to work on a professional photo shoot for the launch of an exciting new car? Chevrolet made that dream come true for two Czech photography students from the Jan Evangelista Purkyne University in Ústí nad Labem.

As part of their prize for winning 1st place in the Photography discipline in the 2009 edition of Chevrolet's applied arts contest Young? Creative? Chevrolet!, Juliana Křížová (23) and Jakub Vlček (27) got the opportunity to spend two days in Zurich, Switzerland, working alongside French automotive and people photographer Dingo on a series of photos featuring the new Chevrolet Spark mini car and aimed at the European lifestyle and consumer media.

The two students worked both behind and in front of the camera. On the first day, they were able to assist and learn from Dingo, experiencing all the different aspects involved in a professional shoot. In addition, they worked on a special project for a Chevrolet training event, shooting detailed pictures of the new Spark. On the second day, the two students acted as extras in the photo shoot – very fittingly in the role of paparazzi.

Juliana and Jakub said: "The photo shoot in Zurich was a really valuable experience for us. It was great to see Dingo, who is a real master of his profession, and the whole team working. Fortunately, we could be involved in the process of creating the campaign not only as spectators but also as active contributors. Thanks to everybody who was there and made these days so pleasant for us."

Florence Camenzind, project leader of Young? Creative? Chevrolet! and the Chevrolet Spark photo shoot said: "We were very pleased to have Juliana and Jakub here in Zurich. The two students did a great job both as photographers and as extras. We believe that awarding the Young? Creative? Chevrolet! winners with such "witness trips", thus giving them an insight into the professional world, is an ideal way to motivate them to develop their talents and prepare for their own careers. We wish them only the very best for their future."

Launched by Chevrolet Europe in 2007, the pan-European "Young? Creative? Chevrolet!" art contest is conducted annually in cooperation with applied arts schools across Europe. It supports upcoming young talent, encouraging students to look at Chevrolet from their own creative perspective. In the competition's 2009 edition, some 530 projects were submitted by 120 schools in 19 European countries in the disciplines of Fashion, Photography, Visual Arts, Video, and Music.

The brief for the Photography discipline had been to submit an unusual picture of the new Chevrolet Aveo, the new generation of Chevrolet cars, and on May 29, 2009, an international panel of judges selected Juliana's and Jakub's entry as the European winner in this discipline.

Praising Juliana's and Jakub's picture, the European jury said: "A very well composed and professional photograph. The students expressed a clear and straight-forward brand message through their project."
