Changing weather conditions are nothing unusual in Belgium, as proven once again in today’s qualifying for the fourth round of the 2010 WTCC. A light rain disturbed the final and decisive minutes of both the Q1 and the Q2 sessions. In these tricky conditions, the Chevrolet drivers were happy to achieve an excellent team result, securing the three spots behind the first row, with Menu 3rd, Muller 4th and Huff 5th. Local hero Vincent Radermecker, on the fourth Cruze, was unluckier and finished Q1 with the 16th best time.

Moreover, the Chevrolet boys were satisfied with the behavior of the Cruze in a technical circuit like Zolder, which requires an excellent car balance and a constant pace. Prospects for tomorrow’s races are good and the team is confident to increase its point toll in both championships. But once again, weather conditions may have a great influence tomorrow and strategy could therefore play a significant role.

·         QUOTES

Alain Menu (3rd) : «It was a positive qualifying session, the car was feeling good and I like this circuit. My first fast lap was quite good, then we made some set-up changes and I managed to improve my time even further. Frankly, I thought this could have been the pole. With the rain starting to fall, it was impossible to have a third attempt. Still, we are in a good position on the grid and we can have some good results tomorrow”.

Yvan Muller (4th): “Second row is not bad at all, and the car was well balanced and quite competitive, especially in the first of the three sectors. With the rain, track conditions were a little bit tricky in some of the braking zones, but changing weather conditions seem to be a standard feature in this year’s WTCC! We will see how things will turn out tomorrow, what I really would like is a few degrees more of  temperature, as I am convinced the car would work even better if the track was warmer”.

Rob Huff (5th): “I am very pleased and it’s again a very good team effort and results for Chevrolet. I think that without the rain, I could have improved my time a little bit, but I am happy with P5 and with how the car feels. My only concern is that you see a lot of drivers cutting the chicanes and it is not very clear where the stewards are putting the limit. To be on the safe side and in order not to risk damaging the car on the kerbs, I prefer to stay clear from them, even if that costs some tenths”.

Vincent Radermecker (16th): “Clearly, I’m not entirely happy with my position, but that’s what it is. I made continuous progress with the first two tire sets, but couldn’t make the best use out of the third, as I did slide a little bit too much on the double right corner in the first sector. I was on a different set-up in my car, which prove not to be as efficient”.

Wayne Brannon : “It is always pleasant to come to the races and be with the team. I think Chevrolet couldn’t have had a better start of the season, and here again, the team has proven it can achieve great things regardless of the conditions. I am impressed with the degree of professionalism of our drivers and everybody in the team, and I am confident that we can achieve a good result tomorrow, no matter what weather conditions are”.
