ZURICH / WELLINBOROUGH, 24th February 2011 – The WTCC’s 2011 season kick-off is fast approaching, in less than one month, with activity  resuming at Curitiba, in Brazil, and the Chevrolet team is anxious to be on track again to defend the two world titles conquered in 2010.

Whilst cars and equipment left Europe in early February for the long journey by sea to South America, the team has continued working relentlessly on the development and testing of the 2011 Cruze equipped with the new 1.6 turbo engine. Today and tomorrow, Rob Huff will conduct the last pre-season test carried out in the UK which includes one testing day at Sywell airfield and one at Silverstone.

So far, the Cruze 1.6 turbo has covered, with entire satisfaction, over 4,500 kms of tests, equal to 2/3 of total mileage covered during one WTCC race season. Development work is aimed at optimizing both performance and reliability, in view of meeting the very demanding criteria of the new FIA technical rules, by which only one engine change per car will be allowed in 2011 and none in 2012. Work is also focusing on other areas such as front brakes and tyres, which will have to stand the heavier constraints resulting from increased power and torque.

The period ahead of the new season inauguration, as always, is also rich in events outside the track. On 21-22 February, the two WTCC Champions, the Cruze and Yvan Muller, were the guests of honour  at a special WTCC celebration that took place at the Bira Circuit in Pattaya, Thailand and was attended by over 60 media representatives from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan.

Yvan Muller, Alain Menu and Rob Huff will be present next 1st-2nd March at the press days of the Geneva Motor Show, where they will witness the launches of the Aveo Sedan and the Camaro Cabrio among other new Chevrolet models, and will be available to meet the media at the Chevrolet stand.
