Bucharest. This year’s ECOBEST accolade has been awarded to the Chevrolet Volt and its sibling Opel Ampera. The President of AUTOBEST, Mr. Ilja Seliktar, said: “We at AUTOBEST are very proud to grant this prestigious award to these revolutionary GM models.”
Earlier this year, the Chevrolet Volt was named 2011 Car of the Year in North America, and it was elected 2011 Green Car of the Year by the Global Car of the Year Jury. The Volt is on sale in the U.S.A. since late 2010 and will be available at selected European Chevrolet dealerships as of November 2011.
Being electrically driven at all times, the Volt offers up to 80 kilometers of battery-powered electric driving with zero fuel consumption and zero emissions. It is the capability to operate after the battery's energy has been depleted, that sets the Volt apart from other electric vehicles. The Volt's over 500 kilometers of extended range comes from an advanced 1.4-liter, 86 hp gasoline-powered engine, serving as an onboard generator. Once the battery's energy is used up, power is seamlessly inverted to the electric drive unit from the generator. On a combined cycle, the Volt emits only 27 g/km CO2 and uses 1.2-liter of gasoline per 100 kilometers. Volt can be driven in town or across the country in all climates, without compromise.
The all-new Aveo is the second Chevrolet model to compete for the AUTOBEST 2012 title. Which model of the top-five finalists will be elected will be announced on December 15, 2011.
