Zurich – The Chevrolet Aveo, available in European markets since summer 2011, has won the third place in the AUTOBEST "best buy" competition. Aveo was given 744 points by a jury of leading journalists from 15 Central and Eastern European countries. It came in third behind the Hyundai Elantra (839) and the Ford Focus (758).
The jury members examine 13 criteria, including design and technical characteristics, such as handling, consumption, spaciousness and environmental impact. They also consider a number of factors deemed particularly relevant in Central and Eastern Europe, including a broad distribution network and easy availability of parts and accessories.
"The Aveo is an excellent small car with a sporty, youthful exterior and a stylish yet practical passenger cabin. It offers value for money, outstanding safety and impressive fuel economy", said Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe.
In August 2011, the Aveo received a five-star safety rating from EuroNCAP. It secured 85 out of 100 points and is currently the safest car in its segment. Other Chevrolet models to have won a top rating from EuroNCAP this year are the Captiva SUV, Orlando MPV, the all-new Malibu midsized car, and the Chevrolet Volt. In September 2011, AUTOBEST voted Volt the "Ecobest of 2011".
