Chevrolet receives two important awards from AUTOBEST jury
2012-02-03
- COMPANYBEST 2011 award to recognize achievements
- Chevrolet Volt awarded ECOBEST 2011
- Chevrolet Aveo 3rd in AUTOBEST 2012 ranking
Prague. Chevrolet Europe officially received the COMPANYBEST 2011 and ECOBEST 2011 awards at a ceremony organized by AUTOBEST in Prague yesterday evening.
Chevrolet Europe was elected COMPANYBEST 2011. The jury was impressed by Chevrolet's development in terms of sales and image over the past years. In 2011, Chevrolet celebrated its centennial with the launch of seven new cars.
"There is no better moment to name Chevrolet Europe our "COMPANYBEST" winner. The centennial of this legendary brand reminds us how important it is for the motoring landscape. To be the best sold brand in the automobile history is fabulous. The performance of Chevrolet Europe is outstanding. We saw not just unprecedented growth of sales, but also a giant leap in terms of image. We honor Wayne Brannon's leadership over the past years," declared Ilia Seliktar, AUTOBEST Jury President.
"I am honored and delighted to accept the COMPANYBEST 2011 award from the distinguished panel and members of AUTOBEST. Seven new launches, 100 years of history to celebrate, our work with SOS Children's villages and the wins in the World Touring Car Championship, made 2011 a very special year for us. This recognition means a great deal to the entire Chevrolet team", said Andrew Higgins, Managing Director, Chevrolet Central and Eastern Europe.
Chevrolet Volt, and its sibling Opel Ampera, both electric cars with extended range capability, were elected ECOBEST 2011.
"The Chevy Volt and Opel Ampera represent the latest eco-technology on the planet. It is the first time - after some decades - that an American car company developed a leading technology at a global level. We at AUTOBEST are very proud to grant this prestigious award to these revolutionary GM models. This is the first European award for Volt/Ampera of many more to come," said Ilja Seliktar, AUTOBEST President.
The Volt offers up to 80 kilometers of battery-powered electric driving with zero fuel consumption and zero emissions. It is the capability to operate after the battery's energy is depleted that sets the Volt apart from other electric vehicles. The Volt's over 500 kilometers of extended range comes from a 1.4L, 86 hp gasoline-powered engine, serving as an onboard generator. Once the battery's energy is used up, power is seamlessly inverted to the electric drive unit from the generator.
In 2010, the Chevrolet Cruze was the first Chevrolet to win the AUTOBEST award. This year, the all-new Aveo saw a podium finish in the 2012 AUTOBEST category. Chevrolet's all-new small car came in third, following the Hyundai Elantra and Ford Focus.
