  • 1.3L turbo-diesel Aveo sedan is Europe's most fuel-efficient four-door notchback with 3.7 liters/100 km
  • First diesel in a small Chevrolet in Europe
  • Three variants with standard Start/Stop technology
  • Engines coupled to 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission

Launched in late spring this year, the new Aveo boasts a completely re-designed, assertive exterior, a newly developed chassis for excellent and responsive ride and handling, as well as a practical and smart interior. It comes with standard electronic stability control (ESC) including hill-start assist and an upgraded range of fuel-efficient, low-emission engines.

As of this autumn, a 1.3-liter turbo-diesel unit with Start/Stop functionality will complement the 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6-liter gasoline engines that are already available. The Aveo sedan with the 1.3-liter turbo-diesel will be the most economical notchback in Europe.

"The 1.3-liter turbo-diesel in the Aveo is the first-ever diesel unit to be fitted into a Chevrolet small car in Europe. It represents an important addition to our range and will deliver that extra edge in economy and emission performance many drivers of a stylish small car are looking for," said Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director Chevrolet Europe.

All three variants of the 1.3-liter turbo-diesel engine meet Euro5 emission criteria and have a close-coupled oxidation catalyst as well as a particulate filter. The 95-hp Eco variant emits 95 g of CO2 per kilometer while the 75-hp variant produces 97 g of CO2/km.

When it comes to fuel consumption, the 95-hp Eco version requires just 3.6 liters/100 km on a combined cycle, whereas the 75-hp and 95-hp variants consume 3.7 and 4.1 liters per 100 km, respectively. In fact, the sleek Aveo sedan, equipped with a 75 hp 1.3-liter diesel engine, will be the most fuel economic four-door that is currently available in Europe.

All three variants reach their maximum power output at 4000 rpm. Whereas the 75-hp and the Eco version of the 1.3-liter turbo-diesel produce a maximum torque of 190 NM, the standard 95-hp unit delivers 210 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Combined with a six-speed manual transmission, both 95-hp variants propels the Aveo to a top speed of 174 km/h. The Eco variant accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 11.7 seconds.

The basic structure, around which the Aveo's 1.3-liter turbo-diesel engine is built, consists of a cast-iron engine block and a lightweight aluminum bedplate. The four cylinder heads are also manufactured from lightweight aluminum and have 16 valves each, for increased airflow. All three versions feature a high-performance common-rail fuel-injection system.

The 95 hp Eco variant will be available exclusively with the hatchback body style.

Fuel is injected into the engines' combustion chamber up to five times per charge cycle, through a multi-injection common rail system at 1600 bar for both the 75 hp and the 95 hp variants.
